What's New in Tidy v2.5: On This Day and Memory Maker

Listen for a second. You almost certainly have a photo you scrolled past once, smiled at, and then it vanished into your gallery between 50,000 other photos. Version 2.5 of Tidy was built to stop that story. Every day, there are memories waiting for you to come back to them.

We call it On This Day, and it's the most nostalgic feature we've shipped so far. Every time you open the app, a beautiful card greets you on the Home screen, taking you back to this exact date — but in past years. One year ago. Five years ago. Twelve years ago. A time machine you already had in your pocket — you just didn't know how to switch it on.

🎞️ What Exactly Is On This Day?

On This Day is a card that appears on your Tidy Home screen. It checks today's date, travels back through your gallery, and surfaces exactly the photos you took on this date — every year you have history for. If today is May 25, you'll see:

• 📸 What you shot on May 25 last year
• 📸 What you shot on May 25 five years ago
• 📸 What you shot on May 25 nine years ago
• 📸 And so on, back to the oldest photo on your device

This isn't magic. It's your years, organized in a way you've never seen them. And the wildest part — some of these photos, you haven't laid eyes on since the moment you took them.

✨ Memory Maker — The New Daily Challenge

Beyond the Home card, there's now a new daily challenge called Memory Maker. Each day, Tidy curates a small collection of memories from this date in past years, and invites you to live them again.

• 📑 Year tabs — Move between years with a single tap. See 2018, then jump to 2020, then 2024.
• 🎞️ Analog feel — Memories are presented in a classic, nostalgic layout that feels like a family album, not a file list.
• 🎊 Confetti — Because some memories deserve a celebration. You'll get a quick animation when you open a meaningful photo.
• ⚡ Daily XP — The challenge plugs straight into the level system (Rookie → Legend) we shipped in v2.3. Every day you open Memory Maker, you earn XP.

This isn't cleaning. It's your daily comeback to the past. Unlike cleaning challenges that demand decisions (keep/delete), Memory Maker is a challenge of experience. You open it, enjoy, close it smiling. And rack up XP on the way.

💡 Why Is This Good?

Think about your gallery for a moment. If you've had your iPhone for 5 years, there are roughly 40,000 photos in there. You open the Photos app maybe once a week and stare at the most recent 20. Everything else — forgotten.

That's the problem On This Day solves:

• 🧠 Date as context — Instead of scrolling back through thousands of photos, you see exactly this day across other years. A structure your brain actually likes.
• 🎲 Daily surprise — You don't know what's waiting tomorrow. Maybe a photo from your wedding seven years ago. Maybe your kid when they were tiny. Maybe a trip you forgot about.
• 🪞 Perspective — Seeing how you looked, where you were, who was with you — that's a gift. Even a mundane photo gains meaning after five years.
• 💾 Actually using your gallery — You don't need thousands of photos to have a memory today. You need the right photos.

And there's a bonus — once you spot a photo from five years ago you love, you can immediately mark it as a Favorite, share it with whoever was there with you, or delete the 5 duplicates of it you noticed in the same view (Tidy remembers you're still in a cleaning gallery). The photo goes from forgotten to one you'll come back to.

📍 How Do You Get There?

It's incredibly simple. After updating to version 2.5:

1. Open Tidy on your device.
2. On the Home screen you'll see a beautiful card called "On This Day" with a memory preview.
3. Tap the card — you go into the full view with all the years.
4. Swipe through the tabs — year by year, from now backward.
5. Every morning — you get a fresh Memory Maker challenge with different photos.

That's it. No settings. No extra permissions. No internet. Everything happens locally on your device — no photo ever leaves it, just like always with Tidy.

Why Does All of This Matter?

Lots of gallery apps have tried to do "memories" — but it's usually a random moment buried in a sea of menus. Tidy 2.5 turns it into a daily ritual. You open the app, get your dose of memories, walk away smiling. The same way you open WhatsApp in the morning — now you open Tidy to see what you had going on five years ago.

And it plays to our philosophy from end to end: your gallery should not be a source of stress. It should be a source of joy. The photos you love — make them visible. The photos that pile up for no reason — clear them out. That way, your library starts working for you, not against you.

What's Next?

Version 2 launched on March 8. We're now on 2.5, on May 25. Six major versions in under 3 months. The pace isn't slowing.
